Ann Boren Armstrong died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 5-7 pm at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway. Funeral Services will be held at St. Matthews United Methodist Church on Friday January 6, 2012 at 9:00 AM.
Ann Boren Armstrong, retired Banker was born on February 21, 1932 in New Albany, MS to George W. and Inez Bonnell Boren. She graduated from Potts Camp High. She then attended Blue Mountain College. Ann was a member of the Euzelian Society. Her sophomore year she was queen of the society. She was also a member of the Wesley Foundation. In 1951 she married James S. Armstrong from New Albany. She worked for 20 years in the banking and savings and loan industry and achieved the level of vice president. Ann was very active in Wesley United Methodist Church and St, Matthews United Methodist Church serving on many committees. She was a den mother for cub scouts. She was also an avid fan of all MSU sports activities. She enjoyed sewing as a lifelong activity and gardening and yard work when she retired. Her greatest pleasure came from spending time with her family. She was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother, and will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James S. Armstrong, son, Allen B. Armstrong, brother, George W. (Billy) Boren and her parents, George W. and Inez Bonnell Boren. Survivors include daughter, Sherrel Ann (Keith) Moffat, of Ridgeland, MS, 2 sons, James S. (Fran) Armstrong, Jr. and Mark S. Armstrong of Valdosta, GA, 1 brother, Norris H. (Erla) Boren of Moraga, CA. 10 grandchildren. Emily, Cassie and Mary Moffat of Ridgeland, MS, Kimberly, Katelyn and Ann Irvin Armstrong of Jackson, MS., Steven (Drew) Armstrong of Columbus, GA, Jason (Angela) Armstrong, Tyler Armstrong and Parker Armstrong of Valdosta, GA. 1 great grandchild Keely Ann Armstrong of Valdosta, GA.
The family is especially grateful to her caregivers Bea Brown and Elsie Echols. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Matthews UMC of Madison, MS and First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, MS TV Ministry.
