Faye was born in Delhi, Louisiana on February 7, 1931, to John Wade and Norma Genevieve Fletcher. She was their only child. Her mother died when she was two years old, and all her life she looked forward to seeing her mother again in Heaven. As a young girl, her father moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi, where she grew up.
She graduated from Carr Central High School in Vicksburg where she played in the band and was a majorette. Soon after high school, she married James “Jimmy” Clark McHann in 1949, and they moved to Jackson. They had three children, Dr. James C. McHann, Jr., John Wade McHann, and Cheryl McHann Summerlin Birch.
In the early years, Jimmy and Faye started together and owned Quik-N-Ezy Curb Stores and Jackson Tomato Company. While Jimmy focused upon running the business, Faye focused upon being a housewife and devoted mother. She often said that she earnestly wanted to be the best mother she could be because she knew what it was like to grow up without her birth mother. She kept an immaculately clean house and became a fabulous cook. Her children remember innumerable little acts of thoughtfulness and kindness tailored to each of her children’s unique needs.
After her children grew up, she became an administrative assistant at the Mississippi Baptist Convention board where she worked for many years to help place pastors in churches. She often talked to her oldest son, who became an ordained Baptist minister, how her heart and prayers went out to these pastors who experienced so many challenges in their ministries. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Faye is survived by her three children. She is also the proud grandmother of six grandchildren, John McHann, Jr., Ryan McHann, David McHann, Ashley McHann, Jessica McHann and Kevin Summerlin. In her later years, she was blessed with nine great grandchildren, Chloe McHann, Steven Jerris, Ava Claire McHann, Wade McHann, Lillian Jerris, Ada Summerlin, Abigail Jerris, Hannah Jerris, and Samuel Jerris.
Funeral services will be held at Parkway Funeral Home, Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Visitation will be 2:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 29, 2026. A private family service will follow. Burial in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
