She was preceded in death by her father, Emmett Sykes; and husband, Jose Hernandez.
Dawn graduated from Long Island University with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree. Early in her career she worked at Brooklyn Hospital in pediatrics and the NICU. She continued her career in Virginia, where she worked at MCV hospitals, HCA and with the beloved team at the private office of Dr. Nadia Blanchet. Dawn also served as an elections poll worker and a volunteer at the American Cancer Society. She accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at a very early age, she served faithfully at the Carriage Hil Chapel for the past several years.
Dawn enjoyed life to the fullest, traveling, entertaining and cooking for her family and friends was her passion. She was a stylish, well dressed, happy, loving and kind hearted soul.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her mother, Carolyn Brett Goins; sister, Tanya Goins Seibold (Christopher); brother, Lance Sykes; daughter, Kimberly S. Torres; son, Angelo E. Sykes (Cristina), grand daughter Destiny Torres; and beloved cats Milo and Dora Kitty; as well as a host of devoted family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held by the family, Date & Time TBA.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to: The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
