William Joseph Johnson, Jr.
October 17, 1942 – December 30, 2022

William “Bill” Joseph Johnson, Jr., 80, of Halifax County, VA, formerly of Durham, NC, passed away on December 30, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jackson Johnson; mom, Cosey Lee Draughan; dad, R.B. Draughan; and his first wife, Barbara Yvonne Johnson.
Bill worked as a printing supervisor for Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bill was a proud owner of a 1968 Mustang and he had many hobbies including, fishing, watching Duke Blue Devils Basketball, spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, time spent with his late wife, Doris and his cats.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Beth Johnson and her husband and William “Joey” Johnson, III and his wife; step-children, James Hartsell and his children and Craig Hartsell and his children; grandchildren, Brandon J. Link, Michael J. Johnson, Walter T. Johnson, Stacy J. Runion, Brandon W. Johnson, Chelsea N. Powell, and John David Powell; brother, Ray Draughan; great-grandchildren, Jacob Runion, Bailey Runion, Peyton Johnson, Ashlynn Link, Lincoln Johnson, Penelope Johnson, Waylon Johnson, Harleigh Johnson, and Paislee Powell; and his special friend, Rachel Barton.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231 where a service will immediately follow at 12 p.m. Interment will be in Washington Memorial Park.
