William “Bill” Elmore Perkins, 81, of Sandston, died in the Lord’s peace at his home on September 25, 2016. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Ellen Perkins; son, Wade Perkins (Laura); daughter, Sharon Crockett (Billy); four grandchildren, Sally Perkins Tate (Nate), Emily Perkins Schindler (Matt), Jasper Castle and Kelsey Castle; four great-grandchildren, Braelyn, William, Grace and Greyson; two brothers-in-law, Randy Gheen and Wallace Carroll (Faye); sister-in-law, Bernice Perkins; and many nieces and nephews. Born to Blanche and Marion Lee Perkins on April 25, 1935, Bill has joined his 13 siblings for another Perkins’ family reunion. He also has joined many accomplished blue grass musicians for another Heavenly jam session. Bill was a well-respected and talented bass player, which is how he met his bride, Ellen, 60 years ago. Bill worked the family farm and learned the value of hard work and taking care of his family. He spent his working career at Automotive Rebuilders, Ford Tractor and Allis Chalmers. Everyone knew Bill as a humble man, willing to do anything for anyone, never expecting anything in return. You wanted Bill, “Perk,” as your friend. The family will receive family and friends at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on October 3.
