Thomas Pairo Overton M.D., 87, of Richmond, Va., passed away on October 17, 2014. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Catherine Lane Overton; and his four children, Anne Overton, Kathleen Overton, John Overton and Lynn Overton Arvin, husband, Richard; and his grandson, Patrick Arvin. Tom was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Hampden-Sydney College 1948 and the Medical College of Virginia, 1952. He did his pediatric residency at The Children's Hospital of Denver. As a World War II veteran, he served as a United States Naval Officer until 1946 and with the Reserves through 1960. Tom as a fellow of The American Academy of Pediatrics and a diplomat of the American Board of Pediatrics and a member of the Virginia Medical Society, Richmond Academy of Medicine and the Southern Medical Association. He also served as an assistant clinical professor of pediatrics at the Medical College of Virginia. He began hs career with Dr.'s Kendig and Arnold (1955-1961) and in 1961, he was one of the founding partners of Dr.'s Overton, Wiley, Kirchmier, Terry and Rowe P.C. Tom served on the board of St. Mary's Hospital and Southern Health Corporation. His love and care for children and their families was one of his true passions in life. To all his patients, who were George, Midlred Clarisse and Sam, he was a kind heart with a gentle touch. Outside of his family and practice, Tom truly loved his friends, old and new. He welcomed many international students into his home and family. His pleasures in life were travel, golf, bird hunting, fishing and entertaining. His home was filled with warmth, laughter and love for all the animals he and the family often brought home. He was a member of the Country Club of Virginia and the 'Captain's' golf group for many years. He was a founding member of the Bull and Bear Club and past member of the Princess Anne Country Club of Virginia Beach. He also served as a member of the Board of Patrons of The Collegiate Schools. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 50 years. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 20, at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. A memorial service will be at a future date as the church makes repairs due to a recent fire.
