Shirley Gray Newsom "Shorty", 90, of Highland Springs, passed away on March 24, 2017. He was preceded in death by his father, Marion; his mother, Alice; his wife, Norma; and his son, Jack. He drove a semi for 20 years for New Dixie Lines before going to work for Sears for about 20 years. He served honorably in WWII in the Guadalcanal Campaign. He loved camping with his family, and he would take them anywhere he was able. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley (Alan) of Yale, Iowa; grandson, Timothy of Highland Springs; granddaughter, Judy of Richmond; two great-granddaughters, Ashley and Michelle (Keith), and a few friends. The family will receive friends on March 28, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue. A funeral service will be held on March 29, 2017 in the funeral home chapel at 2 pm, where interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park.
