SAM, Mr. Tran Duc, age 89, a retired engineer from Intel Corporation, died quietly at his home in Glen Allen on Friday, July 1, 2011. He was born December 6, 1923 in the town of Lao Kai in North Vietnam to the late Tran Vinh Ky and Back Cuc. He was married to the late Hoang Thi Han. He joined the Nationalist Government of the Republic of China under the leadership of General Chiang Kai-shek. For several years he served Air Laos and worked as an engineer for the U.S. Embassy in South Vietnam before the Fall of Saigon in 1975. In the U.S., he worked as an engineer for the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston for more than a decade. He was an active civic member of the Chinese, Vietnamese, and the Asian community at large in San Jose, California. Mr. Tran is survived by his two daughters, Tran My Linh and Tran My Lan, both of Henrico County; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A traditional Buddhist ceremony service for Mr. Tran will be held on Sunday, July 3, at 3 p.m. Family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, Virginia. The Venerable Buddhist Monk Th¡ch Minh Tri will officiate. Cremation service will be held on Monday, July 4, at 1 pm.
