Ruth Elizabeth Fisher Dowdy, the personification of love and generosity, born Nov. 25, 1922, of Richmond went home to her Lord Jesus on Monday, April 30, 2018. She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn C. Kahl Fisher; father, Eustace (Monk) Fisher; brother, Roy E. Fisher; brother, Willie L. Fisher; sister, Bernice F. Selph; husband, Percy E. Dowdy; husband, Melvin D. Dowdy, Sr., KIA, WW II. She is survived by son, Dr. Melvin Dunford Dowdy (Wife, Dr. Bonnie B. Dowdy); daughter, Marilyn Ruth Dowdy Maloney (husband, Michael W. Maloney, Sr.); son, Wellford Percy Dowdy (wife, Elizabeth K. Dowdy); granddaughter, Sarah M. Dowdy; grandsons, Jeffrey J. Dowdy (wife, Genevieve Dowdy), Brian E. Dowdy (wife, Susan Dowdy), Neal E. Dowdy (wife, Nicole Dowdy), Marshall A. Maloney; great-grandchildren, Kylan Dowdy, Luca Dowdy and Atlas Dowdy. Ruth was a current member of Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church and a past member of Shalom Baptist Church, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Ch. 60, (where she was very active for a number of years, including being President), Cardinal Club, Aux. to Craft 92, V. F. W. Aux., 30th Inf. Div. Assn. Aux., Order of Eastern Star, #0176 (Montrose), and retired U. S. Postal Service. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 2, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Flowers are welcome.
