Snapp, Roy Herbert, age 91, of Richmond, departed this life on Sunday, March 23, 2014. He was the devoted husband of Marjorie Wood Snapp for 70 years; and the son of the late Hugh John Snapp and Effie Winn Snapp. He is survived by two sons, Herbert Donald “Don” Snapp and his wife, Linda Wilkerson Snapp, and Gerald Coley “Jerry” Snapp and his wife, Sarah “Sally” Molz Snapp of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Betty Snapp-Barrett and her husband, Dr. Lee Carlton Barrett of Lancaster, Pa.; four grandchildren, Corey, Wesley, Ansley and Hampton Snapp of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Laurice Snapp Alley of Richmond; and a niece, Barbara Snapp Garrison and her husband, William Garrison of Richmond. Mr. Snapp served his country with Honor and Dignity in the U. S. Army during World War II, fighting in both North Africa and Cassino, Italy with the 36th Infantry Division, Co. B, 141st Regiment. He was one of only three men in his platoon to survive the Battle of Cassino. He was captured and held Prisoner of War from January 21, 1944 until April 12, 1945. He was a member of the Denny Landrum Chapter of American Ex POWs, a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Post 9808 and a member of NARFE, Chapter 60. Mr. Snapp retired from the Federal Government as a Senior Accountant with 36 years of service.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road where a funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday. He will be interred with military honors in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Virginia War Memorial at www.vawarmemorial.org or to Derbyshire Baptist Church.
