He was a U. S. Navy Vietnam Veteran, receiving the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Metal. He graduated from Varina High School and was a welder for 43 years with DuPont. He was a member of Four Mile Creek Baptist Church for 40 years and Sandston Baptist Church for five years. He belonged to Malvern Hill Hunt Club and Binns Hall Hunt Club and played softball for Four Mile Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Annie Strath; twin sister, Janet Strath; and sister, Lois Loubier.
He is survived by his wife Rita Strath; children, Jay Strath (Tiffani Hall Strath) and Wendy Strath McLin (Mac McLin); grandchildren; Taylor Haley Strath, Gavin James Strath and Evan James Strath; and a sister Margaret Anne Willis.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 12, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231 where a funeral service will be held Saturday, April 13, at 12 p.m.
Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.
