Robert Bryant Moore Jr. joined his parents, Robert B. Moore and Mable Marie Walton Ruckart, his stepfather, Robert T. Ruckart, and his youngest brother, Kevin D. Moore, in eternal rest on April 24, 2023.
He is survived by his sister Katherine W. Lawson (Russell) of Henrico and Jonathan L. Moore (Yai) of Nagoya, Japan.
Born February 3, 1951, in Richmond at St. Luke’s Hospital, he spent the whole of his life in the city. He graduated from George Wythe High School (class of ’69), served honorably in the Air Force and then took up the masonry and brick laying trade as his work. He believed in and preached repeatedly on the values of hard work and perseverance and he knew as much about the physics of bricks and mortar as any engineer. He was a tinkerer who enjoyed making a broken thing useful again.
He never met a stranger but did not kindly suffer fools. He was fiercely independent and stubbornly self-reliant, famously kind to animals and loyal to his friends, who were numerous. He will be sorely missed by those friends, his family and his niece (Sarah) and nephews (Ben, Anthony and Andrew).
If he had a regret, it might have been that he never got his knee replacements so that he could walk his beloved Buttermilk Trail again. Bryant requested no service be held. Donations in his memory may be made to the Southside SPCA in Meherrin, VA or the charity of your choice benefiting animals.
