Mr. Robert Leigh Mayhew, age 75, of North Chesterfield, Virginia passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022. Robert was born on December 26, 1946 in Matewan, West Virginia, to the late Philip and Virginia Mayhew.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 47 years, Carolyn Mayhew; daughter, Jennifer Mayhew; son, Jonathan Mayhew; nephew, Brian Pillow and his wife, Allison; great nephew, Cameron.
Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and later went to work for DuPont for 34 years before retiring. Robert lived his life to the fullest and took pleasure in scuba diving and photography, underwater and landscape. He was a member of the Undersea Explorers Club since 1974.
Robert was a craftsman and loved to spend time woodworking and helping those in need. Robert coordinated and participated in the Christmas in April program, which helped underprivileged neighborhoods and built homes for those that didn't have the means.
He built model train sets, and collected many unique gadgets. Many people called him "Mr. Gadget". Robert had a passion for animals, especially his loving dogs, Colby and Bella, and his other grand fur babies. His kind nature and gentle spirit will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
