Restoring the Vandalized Historical Headstones at Hollywood Cemetery
IN THE CARE OF
Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory
Headstones and memorials are a time honored tradition we use to commemorate those we have loved and lost. They give us a tangible connection in a special place to reflect on and honor the lives and legacies of those who have gone before us.
On the weekend of March 13th, we were confronted with the heart-rending news that many historic grave markers were vandalized and damaged in the President’s Circle section of historic Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond. Law enforcement are still seeking information leading to the identification of the immoral vandals who desecrated the graves near the final resting places of United States Presidents Monroe and Tyler.
While the work of law enforcement continues, we at Nelsen Funeral Home are dedicated to honoring and preserving the memory of our community’s loved ones. That is why Nelsen Funeral Home has donated $1000 to the efforts to restore and/or replace the many historic headstones that were vandalized and damaged over the weekend.
We have received many inquiries from members of our community asking what they can do to help. For anyone wishing to contribute to the effort to restore the vandalized headstones in the President’s Circle at Hollywood Cemetery, please click the link below for instructions on how to donate.
As always, we at Nelsen Funeral Home are truly honored and humbled to serve our community. Thank you for the trust you have placed in us during the most challenging of times.
