Ms. Mildred Odom Collins, 107, of Richmond, departed this life and entered eternal life on November 26, 2024. Ms. Collins spent the last years of her life at The Laurels of University Park, where she was beloved by everyone.
Ms. Collins was born in Columbia, South Carolina, along with her twin brother Haywood on March 8, 1917. Her parents, Wylie Odom and Maude Bell Odom; husband, Percy E. Collins; brothers, Leland, Haywood, William (Billy); sisters Virginia, Betty, Ester, Estelle and Josephine and daughter-in law, Ann Fletcher Collins preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Dr. James M. Collins, grandson, Christopher Todd Collins and his wife Daisy, granddaughter, Lori Collins Downum and her husband, Daniel; two great-grandchildren, Corinne Madison Downum and Braxton Daniel Downum.
Almost everyone knew her as “Duck”, named by her grandson after taking him to feed the ducks. Her great-grandchildren called her “Ducky”. She was always on the move, whether she was walking or in her wheelchair. Everyone who met her loved her beautiful smile, sweet demeanor and wonderful sense of humor. Not many knew that she was an exceptional artist who had no formal training. Ms. Collins would show her collections in museums in and around Louisianna.
Ms. Collins was a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Derbyshire Baptist Church. The family will celebrate Ms. Collins life privately and have a private entombment.
