Obituary of Mary Woody Reid
REID, Mary Woody, 86, of Richmond, joined her heavenly family on May 11, 2011. She was born and raised in Roanoke, Va., by the late William and Myra Woody. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Edwin Corbitt Reid; her infant son who died at birth; her adult son, William Linwood Reid; and granddaughter, Windy Reid Briggs. She was passionate about her family, her neighbors, her fellow members of Derbyshire Baptist Church and her many friends at the International Mission Board where she worked for a total of 35 years. She is survived by her two daughters, Susie Reid and Myra Wood (husband Bill); her son, Woody Reid (wife Alisa); daughter-in-law, Sylvia Reid; sister, Maude Woody Clement; niece, Dianne Fuqua; and great-niece, Donna Beth Conklin. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Heidi Zenk, Myk Reid and Ashton Reid; six great-grandchildren, Ronnie, Tiffany and Stephanie Briggs, Tony Vega, Eva and Lillian Reid; one great-great-grandson, Austin Minion; several of her husband's nieces and nephews; and her pets, Taco and Corbitt. Our family would like to thank Mom's special caregiving companions, Shirley Moss, Abby Freeman and Dede Sangmortey. Their love and care for Mom allowed her to remain in her home years beyond what would have otherwise been possible. We also wish to thank Mom's physician, Dr. Leon Spiers of Partner MD and his nurse, Jennifer Carter for their unwavering and loving care throughout Mom's journey with Alzheimer's. Dr. Spiers is truly one of the many tender mercies God has bestowed upon our family over the years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Bon Secours Hospice, 5875 Bremo Road, Suite 710, Richmond, Va., 23226, or to your favorite animal rescue organization. Our family will receive friends on Friday, May 13, 6 to 8 p.m. at Parham Chapel of Woody's Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road. A service to celebrate Mom's life will be held in the Chapel of Derbyshire Baptist Church, 8800 Derbyshire Road, on Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Westhampton Memorial Park.
