Obituary of Marvin W. Garrett
Marvin W. Garrett, 73, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Marvin is survived by his high school sweetheart of 56 years Sandra R. Garrett, his children Brian Garrett (Sandra), Ronnie Garrett (Shannon) and Terri Search (Kevin) and his grandchildren Emily, Justin, Kaylee, and Abbey. He is also survived by his brother Calvin Garrett and his sister Diane Foster (Mac). Marvin was the oldest child of the late Harvey and Bertha L. Garrett. Marvin was a proud member of the John Marshall cadet corp. After high school he went to night school as a machinist apprentice. In the early 60’s he went to work for Industrial Machine Manufacturing and through the next 50+ years, he worked his way through the company and became president and owner of the company. He was truly one of the last company owners that believed in his employees and he took care of his employees through thick and thin. Marvin was dedicated to his employees and his customers. He often said that he couldn’t spell cat but give him something to figure out or design he could do it. One of the proudest things he cherished was buying a rivah home in 1996. He loved to have family and friends visit and enjoy the home on the Piankatank River. Some of his best friends were his rivah friends. Marvin was a great husband, dad, grandpa, and a great boss. He will be truly missed. A special thanks to Donald, Danny, and Wayne for all their help, dedication, and care they showed for both Mr. and Mrs. Garrett. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 4-7 pm; where a chapel service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 2:30 pm. Interment in Washington Memorial Park. Marvin was a great husband, dad, grandpa, and a great boss. He will be truly missed.
