Smith, Martha Ruth Jordan, 81, went to be with the Lord May 9, 2023. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Robert P.Smith; daughters, Cheryl Morgan (John) and Rhonda Girvin (Douglas); sister, Barbara Butler (William); grandchildren, Shelley Shadron (Bryan), Andrew J.Morgan, and Alex Morgan (Haley); Zachary, Ashley, and Rachel Girvin; three great grandchildren, Brooks, Hunter, and Libbie Shadron. Martha was the youngest of three daughters of Ruth Patton Jordan and Lane Jordan. She was born and reared in the Barton Heights area of Richmond. She graduated from John Marshall High in the class of Feb. 1960, and attended RPI (now VCU) beginning Sept. 1960. After marrying Robert in 1964,
her highest priority in 1965 turned to making the best possible home environment for her growing family, as Cheryl was born. Many years later in 1996, when grandchildren numbers were increasing, she opted to depart from her full time employment at USDA, Rural Development, where she had been employed for about 10 years. Her goal was to be more involved with the growing family and she accomplished that very well.
