We didn't know him well, and only knew him as Granddaddy, but our memories will be with us forever. We loved seeing Granddaddy when we came to Virginia, loved hearing his stories and talking with him. His love of roses and advice on caring for them led to our roses being healthier and prolific. We know how much he will be missed by all and our love and prayers are sent to all the family he left behind.  "Fair winds and following seas, sir".

We are so sorry to hear of Uncle Louis' passing and pray that your memories will give you strength and comfort in the days and weeks ahead.  You are all in our thoughts.

So sorry to hear of Louis' death.  A favorite memory was when he stopped by Smith Mt Lake with his brother and listened to him tell some wonderful old stories.  I know he will be missed

We were so sorry to hear of Louis' passing.  I especially enjoyed when he and his brother dropped by Smith Mt. Lake and listened to their stories.  I know he will be missed.  Just love the picture of him enjoying a cigar.

Skip and I know the loss of someone so special and dear to each of our hearts is hard.  We all try to look passed the loss and think positive.  Just knowing that your Dad is at peace again with your Mom, Brother and others he missed, takes that pain from our hearts. He will be truly missed by alot of people left behind....we can only cherish the memories and look forward to the day when we meet again.

Linda and Dianna,  Uncle Louis was always someone that I looked up to as a child.  Although he had a calm nature, which would typically place someone in the background...his presence was strongly felt.  A very intelligent man that knew how to have fun...especially with Aunt Inez.  He will be missed.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of the family today.

So sorry on the loss of your father. Remember you will always have him in your heart.

Mr. Long was both a mentor and a friend. For the past three years, I have help maintain his yard and especially tending to his roses. He has taught me and shown me on the care of roses. His vast wealth of knowledge about roses will be with me for all time. Not only about roses but life itself. He has told me to loop life square  in the eye. To take time to be patient but most important to smell the rose. I will missed him but his memory will always be in my Heart, Mind, and Soul. :-) :-) :-)

As a Registered Nurse, I decided to try a stint at Home Health Nursing, and was lucky enough to have Mr. Long as my patient for many months. Not to ever be rushed, he insisted that I sit a spell and visit with him in addition to all the medical stuff. He proved to be a marvelous gentleman and a wonderful friend. He would regale me with stories of the war, his young life, his family, his extensive travels, his best fishing buddy (his son), and his love of gardening. And, oh, the roses! I was blessed to have a friend who could help him with yard work, and I know that David brought him happiness in bringing back the roses in his yard these past 2 years. We could talk about tools, antiques, history, politics, and anything else. Louis was a wealth of knowledge, information, wit, and useful facts, and he was always ready for a little fun. He had some bit of curmudgeon in him as well, and did not tolerate foolishness. He shared my passion for vegetables, and especially for summer tomatoes from my garden, and was always glad for a baskiet of goodies. He taught me many things in our short time together, and I will forever cherish his memory. My sincerest condolences go to his beautiful family in this time of loss and sorrow.

Dianna, I'm so sorry for your lost. Bobby and I will always cherish the moments and knowledge your dad passed our way. Miss and love you.

Rebecca,  I'm so sorry for your loss.  Prayers for you and your families as you remember your loved one in the coming days. He will always be in your memories.
