Mrs. Lillian Ridout Butler, 97, of Richmond died May 6, 2012 surrounded by loving family and friends. Her parents were the late Maude and Taylor Ridout. She was the widow of the late Brooke Butler and is survived by her nephew, Robert Ridout and his wife, Patti, of Kennett Square, PA and her cousin, William Motley, Jr. of Richmond. Also surviving are her great nephew, Louis Ridout of Herndon, VA, and her great nieces, Lynn Paxson of Hockessin, DE and Justine Berdini of Lewes, DE.
Lillian was a member of First Baptist Church of Richmond and its Gold Band Class. She was also a long term supporter of Central United Methodist Church in South Richmond. She and her late husband were active in Woodmen of the World and she was active in the Eastern Star.
She was a lifelong resident of Richmond and was runner up in the Miss Richmond pageant in 1936. She graduated from John Marshall High School. She retired from the American Tobacco Company after more than 40 years service where she was one of the first women supervisors. Lillian was ahead of her time as a woman owning investment property beginning in the 1950’s. Most recently she resided at Chestnut Grove Assisted Living Community. The family thanks her care givers, Abby Freeman, Enisa Beglerovic, Nada Prskalo and Deborah Wilson for their love, affection and outstanding care.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Woody Funeral Home-Parham Chapel, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229, at 11am, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Central United Methodist Church, 1213 Porter Street, Richmond, VA 23224.
