A lifelong resident of Richmond, he was born on March 1, 1929 to Lawrence T. Berry and Eunice Berry. He was predeceased by his sister, Susan Berry Ware. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond. Following graduation, he attended Hampden-Sydney College in Hampden-Sydney, Virginia; and was a graduate of the University of Richmond, where he was a charter member of the UR chapter of Sigma Chi fraternity.
He was married for 61 years to Beverly Handy Berry, who survives him, along with four children: Lawrence T. Berry, III (Jacqueline) of Scottsville, Kentucky and their children, Vaughn Hornberger, Evan Berry and Eve Berry; John Berry (Colleen) of New York City; Thomas Berry of Richmond; and Jean Berry Fiedler (Michael) of Richmond and their children Michael Fiedler and Lillian Fiedler; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Buddy was a veteran of the US Army and served in Germany during the Korean War. He spent his entire career in the insurance industry and retired from USF&G in 1990. An avid skier, bowler, golfer and bodysurfer, he enjoyed engaging in these activities with his beloved family by his side. Buddy was a sentimental father, grandfather and uncle who selflessly put his family above all others.
A private service will be held at a later date at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bon Air Presbyterian Church, 9201 W Huguenot Road, Richmond, VA 23235.
