Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory
SMITH, Kiva E., 56, of Richmond, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Her greatest joy came from dancing and her cat Pete was always by her side when watching television. Kiva was always very caring, helpful and generous woman. She was also a very strong woman and proudly served as a Sargent for 10 years in the U.S. Air Force, where she was an accomplished Marksman. But, not only did she fight for her country, she fought for the cure and participated in many walks and activities associated with the development and research for a cure for cancer. Kiva always strove to further herself not only in life but also in education and the work place. She earned her associates degree in computer science and attended and advancement seminars to move up in the workplace. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Roberta Wagner; mother, Joyce A. Johnson; and brother, Alphonso Smith, Jr. Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Leonard Smith; step-father, Leonard Johnson; niece, Michelle Chinlund; nephew, Shaun Smith; and great-niece, Maya Chinlund. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, at 2 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be left at www.nelsencares.com.
