Obituary of John Thomas Miller
John Thomas Miller, 74, of Henrico County passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents Frances and William Miller. He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Claudia Maher Miller. He is also survived by his sisters-in- law, Karen Maher Reibsamen and Joanne Maher, and his brothers-in-law, Michael Maher and John Maher and his wife Benet as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. John had a long, distinguished 38 year career with MassMutual as a financial advisor. Over the course of his career, he was a certified long term care specialist, investment specialist, and securities principal. He developed friendships with his clients that have lasted a lifetime. John was known for his gregariousness. He liked nothing better than to be with friends or family. He loved planning his annual pre-Christmas eggnog making event where his friends Bernie and Les gathered for an evening of making eggnog and filling bottles to distribute to any and all who would take them. One of the highlights of his life was socializing with his "Newman Group" on a regular basis for meals or on Viking cruises to Europe to satisfy his love of travel. Other areas of travel included Napa Valley wine country and afternoon trips to Virginia wineries. John was definitely a wine connoisseur who liked to share his opinions about which were the best wines and where to get them. His house was always the center of family and friend gatherings. He will be missed for his caring, generous, and fun loving nature. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 17 at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, VA with a visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.woodyfuneralhomeparham.com for the Miller family.
