John Hamilton

John Hamilton, 87, of Henrico, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 8, 2022. He joins his wife of 53 years, Jean Raye Shelton Hamilton, who predeceased him on August 12, 2016. John was born in Smithfield, NC on September 3, 1935, moving to Virginia at age 12. He married Jean Raye Shelton in 1963, in Roanoke and moved to Richmond. John was devoted to his faith, family, friends and freedom (his motto for a successful life). He was a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Henrico. His employment career included insurance and chemical sales. However, he considered his 14 years as Property Manager at Trinity UMC his greatest joy, as a real privilege to help others. John is survived by his son Daniel and his wife Beth, along with grandchildren Caleb, Sara and John Mark Hamilton. Additional joy entered his life in 2020 with the addition of granddaughter Savannah Shepherd and great-grandsons Cody and Westin Hamilton. A celebration of life will be held at Trinity UMC, 903 Forest Ave. on Wednesday, September 14th, 2pm. A reception will follow. Interment will be private at a later date.
