DUKE, John Charles “Charlie,” 71, of Aylett, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph C. Duke and Sarah Alice Duke. Charlie was a retired sprinkler engineer and a veteran of the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Hanover Radio Control Club. Charlie was a private pilot and enjoyed flying airplanes, working on cars, and watching NASCAR races. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Doris B. Duke; daughter, Sharon D. Logan, her husband and his second son, Robert; son, C. Brian Duke, his wife and his second daughter, Stacey; two grandchildren, Matthew Brian Duke and McKinley Taylor Duke; loving dog, Nickie; sister, Ann D. Persinger, her husband Thomas; brother, Gilbert R. Duke, his wife Donna; a good friend, Neal J. Culiner; four nephews; and one niece. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue Richmond, Va 23231, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be in Signal Hill Memorial Park.
