Joan B. Wilton, born in Richmond, VA, on April 4, 1934, peacefully went to be with her Lord on August 13, 2024. She was surrounded by her loving family. Joan was preceded in death by the love of her life, Somers, whom she married in 1950. We know that Joan and Somers are dancing in heaven now to their favorite song, "Somewhere My Love."
She was also preceded in death by her daughter Kathy and her granddaughter Katie. Joan leaves behind her loving children, Barry (Tracy), Debra (Barry) and Sandra (Bill). Joan was affectionately known as JoJo to her grandchildren, John (Leah), Michael (Kristen), Jennifer (Adam), Brooke (Josh), Taylor (Nathan), Emma (Walker) and Somers (Ashley), all of whom she loved dearly, and they loved her dearly in return. Joan was also blessed to have great-grandchildren, Carter, Kaelyn, Ben, Austyn, Alivia, Bennett, AJ, Cooper, and Willow, all of whom she adored. She also leaves behind her loving sister, Ann.
Joan personified grace in all aspects of her life. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Richmond, VA. She loved her family with her whole heart and her most treasured times were with them. Joan taught her family about faith, love, grace, kindness, wisdom and to care for others and to help those in need. She loved to travel, read, and spend time at Virginia Beach. Additionally, she dearly loved her many friends. Joan deeply missed her very close friend, Carol, who passed away in 2023.
Joan's family will miss her dearly but will forever carry the precious memories she gave them in their hearts. Her family is deeply grateful to caregivers Helen and Brenda who cared for her and loved her, as she loved them.
The family will hold a private graveside service for Joan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Operation Smile. Both charities were dear to Joan's heart.
