Janice was the beloved spouse of Steve, the mother of James (Vanessa), Justin (Alicia); the grandmother of Jett, Ayden, Jaxx, Gavin and Larkin; the sister of Jane Hoard (Harris), the brother of Steven Hogan (Tifany); aunt, cousin and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Juanita Crabtree, and her sisters Judy and Joyce.
Janice lived a life that was focused on family, friends and her faith. Her laughter filled every gathering attended and she was born with the most beautiful large smile that would light up any room.
Janice was born St. Louis, Missouri and lived in Harvester, Missouri. She attended Francis Howell High School, then Missouri State University in Springfield. She met her husband Steve, the love of her life, while in high school and ultimately married on April 2, 1977.
Janice played the role of Navy wife and was steadfast in providing her first born James with the love and support he needed while Steve was deployed. Following Steve’s honorable discharge in 1984, they were blessed with their second son Justin.
Locating throughout the Southeast, Janice worked as an Accountant for private companies and several non-profits. She ultimately started her own accounting firm which she maintained until retirement. Janice was an avid and competitive volleyball and softball player as well as a superfan of her son’s sports activities. Her skill and desire to win carried through to any game she played. Steve does not remember ever winning cards.
Life for the family changed with the birth of her first grandchild coinciding with her retirement. This sparked a desire to return to the Richmond VA area to be near both of her son’s families. Janice created a home filled with love, laughter, and all the happiness she could share, spreading it wherever she went through her smile and uplifting spirit. She was “Nana” and was in her element.
Recently Janice was always on the go to and from grandchildren’s activities, and to her fiercely competitive Bunco nights. Her energy flowed deeply into everything she attempted and thrived at pursuing in life. She was always involved and was always upbeat and up for every challenge in life
Janice's legacy and life lessons she gave to us are simple: to be loving to all, to be grateful for each day given, to give more than you receive, and lastly to leave this world a better place because of how you lived in it.
We love you, Janice, just as you have loved us. Rest in eternal peace.
Please honor Janice’s wishes with a donation to The American Heart Association in lieu of flowers. https://www.heart.org/
