The daughter of Robert Lewis and Ruby Jones Spencer of Buckingham, Va., Janath was predeceased by her husband, Charles Wilson Smith.
She credited her beloved son, Charles Spencer Smith, her extended family and her church family for giving her strength and joy for life’s journey.
After graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School and Smithdeal Massey Business School in Richmond, Janath worked for 12 years with The Richmond Tuberculosis Association, four years with the Disability Association in Raleigh, NC, and 19 years as secretarial administrative assistant in Federal Programs for Richmond Public Schools. She was the family videographer and chronicler. Extremely artistic and creative, Janath was always writing poems for personal greeting cards, making Barbie clothes for nieces’ dolls, and searching for or making the perfect gifts. A tiny woman in stature, she was very strong, feisty, loving and endearingly stubborn.
