Born on May 22, 1965, he was the son of the late Jackie Black and Michael Wood.
Jay was predeceased by his grandmother, Marie Coleman; his aunt, Sherry Hutchinson; and his loyal rottweiler, Rebel.
He is survived by his wife, Chloe Wood; his children, Shaun Wood (Senecea Jefferson) and Nichole Wood (Dustin Gunter); his cherished grandchildren, Jaylynn and Royce Wood; his brother, Jerry Wood (Kimmy); his nephew and niece, Michael and Heather Groome; his dogs, Clifford and Wendy; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Jay had a long and dedicated career in construction, working with M & E Contractors and Colonial Webb. He was passionate about his work and enjoyed being part of the industry. Outside of his professional life, he had a variety of interests, including fishing, visiting Ocean View, and listening to classic rock music. He also enjoyed collecting Civil War relics. Above all, Jay loved the visits from his grandchildren which always brought laughter and joy to his life. His grandson would often be met with a chess match and his granddaughter never left without a handful of change.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231, where the funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. Please wear a t-shirt of your favorite band!
