Obituary of James "Jimmie" Edward Garrett, III
James "Jimmie" Edward Garrett, III, age 77, of Highland Springs, went to meet his Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, October 15, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Garrett, Jr.; mother, Mildred Ford Garrett; and wife of 52 years, Carolyn P. Garrett. He is survived by his sister, Judy Satterwhite (Roy); brother, Dennis Garrett; daughter, Grace Garrett; granddaughters, Lindsey Heuvel (Chris), Courtney Whetten (Jesse); great-grandchildren Max & Savannah Heuvel and Adalyn & Everett Whetten; in addition, Penny Koopman, whom he called his adopted daughter. Jimmie was a humble, generous, compassionate, kind hearted man of God. He was a member of New Hope Baptist church for 48 years where he served faithfully in many areas. He was retired from the telephone company and most recently worked part time at Nelsen Funeral Home. He loved antique cars and going to car shows, enjoyed going to numerous music jams where he sang and danced, was active with the YMCA, and ministered to others in a grief support group. He was loved and will be missed by so many! The family will receive friends on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231 where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 12 p.m. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.
