JACKSON, Harry James “H. J.”, 69, born in Aiken, SC on August 4, 1947, passed away on July 29, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dantzler Jackson and Margaret H. Litton, and is survived by his spouse, Carolyn S. Jackson; children, Valerie Self (Bob), Tammy Cross (Tim), Richard Jackson (Yvonne), and Judy Shepherd (Adam); grandchildren, Michael Corker, Patricia Mattison, Amber Jackson, Adam Shepherd Jr., Jacob Shepherd, Melanie Alanis, Miguel Cross, Maria Cross, and Melissa Cross; and great-grandchildren, Gracie Corker, Angel Alanis, and Josanie Alanis. The family wishes to acknowledge all of their extended family as well, especially Cindy Bailey (Mike). H. J. served as a PC3 Navy Veteran and was a 32nd degree Mason. H. J. was a Deputy Sheriff for Richmond City, as well as an ordained minister. As a member of Pioneer Baptist Church for 38 years, he loved sharing his love for the Lord and touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with. Being a member of a Country Gospel band, ‘The Pioneer Boys’, H.J. had a passion to share the word of God through his music, leading others to Christ. His all-time favorite song was, “I’m Using My Bible For A Road Map.” H.J. was truly a blessing to his family and a true man of God. He was the glue that held our family together. Everyone called him an “encourager”. H. J. will always and forever live in our hearts. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 31, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231 where services will be held Tuesday, August 1, at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at the Pioneer Baptist Church Cemetery.
