Harriett was a member of the National Association of Railway Business Women, Past member of Broaddus Memorial Baptist Church, Monument Heights Baptist Church, and Urbana Baptist Church. She was a volunteer teacher’s aid at St. Clair Walker School in Middlesex Co. and worked as a clerk with the Department of Agriculture. Her grandfather was the founder of Gardner’s Baptist Church in Macon, NC.
Harriett was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Carroll Leftwich Martin, her brothers John M. Gardner and Thomas H Gardner and wife Alma. Her sister Margret “Maggie” Mitchell and husband Otis Cling Mitchell, nieces Margret “Peggy” M. Licht and Regina G. Prout.
She is survived by her sons Carroll Leftwich Martin Jr. and wife Jane of Charles City , VA., Charles “Chuck” Mattox III and wife Beverly of Martinsburg, W.Va. stepdaughter Laura M Bryant of Crocker, VA. Three grandchildren, Carroll Leftwich Martin III and wife Cynthia of Virginia Beach, Va., Charles Thomas Martin of Henrico, Va., and Amy Marie Fary of Crocker, Va. Two great grandchildren, Carroll Leftwich Martin IV and Christopher Clay Martin both of Virginia Beach, VA. Nieces, Linda G Cullinan and children Mike, Brad, and Doug, Pamela P Mitchell, Patricia M Jordan, and Donna G. Williams and sons Tom and Rob, and nephews, Thomas O Mitchell and John T. Gardner, grand nephew Thomas Licht and Peter Prout and grand niece Maggie Carson.
There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 11:00am at Oakwood cemetery. Services by Woody funeral home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. Richmond, VA.
