Gloria Jean Jones Walker, age 67, entered into eternal life in the sunrise of June 6, 2016. She was born to the late Joseph Jones and Annie Mae Mallett Jones, on September 21, 1948 in Jackson, Mississippi. Collecting antiques, gardening and baking sweets were Gloria’s passions and delights. She was an angel born amongst her 5 sisters, she became our sister of charity and mercy, and from her we learned grace and compassion. Gloria was always an active member of the church community wherever she resided. She was currently a member of The St. Paul’s Baptist Church. Her career expanded from working as a publisher, teacher and eventually an IT programmer. She was an outstanding educator and mentor, and was able to bring whatever she taught to life. Gloria is predeceased by Phillip Walker. She is survived by her two daughters, whom she loved deeply, Dawn Walker and Sydnie Walker Jones, and three grandchildren. Gloria is also survived by sisters, Barbara Woodson, Yvonne Chambers, Chigoke Adoma, Deborah (Marvin) Pickett, Amanda Jones, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many devoted friends. Our cherished memories of Gloria are her commitment to friendship, sensitivity to others, kind heartedness and charming beauty. A memorial service will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave, Richmond, VA 23231 on Saturday, June 11 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nia, Inc. of Greater Richmond (www.niainc.org) c/o St. Paul's Baptist Church, 4247 Creighton Rd., Richmond, VA 23223.
