Ashby, Franklyn H., Jr., M.D. passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 3rd, 2015. He was born May 11, 1928, in Cohoes, NY, the only child of Franklyn and Lydia Ashby. He graduated Albany Academy, Hamilton College, where he played ice hockey and ran track, and Albany Medical College. He served as Medical Officer in the 5th Med EVAC, 82nd Airborne, at Ft. Bragg. Afterwards, he established a family practice in Delmar, NY, served as Medical Director of the Employee Health Service of New York State in Albany, and retired as Medical Director of Philip Morris USA in Richmond. He was a Fellow in the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Medical Society of Virginia and Richmond Academy of Medicine. He is survived by his wife, Molly; son David, wife Marylee, grandchildren, Rebecca and Joshua; son Peter, wife Marsha, grandchildren, Benjamin, Victoria and William; and son Franklyn, wife, Susan, grandchildren Megan, Franklyn, and Caroline. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 14, at 2:00 pm at Ginter Park Presbyterian Church, 3601 Seminary Ave., Richmond.
