Frances Anderson Crowder, a sixteen year resident of The Hermitage at Cedarfield, died March 1, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents Frances and Wistar Anderson of Cartersville, Va., her beloved husband Joseph Scott Crowder, Jr., son Joseph Scott Crowder, III, sister Zuleime Walters, sister Sara Julia Anderson and brother Wistar Anderson. She is survived by her son James Anderson Crowder and wife Carol of Richmond and three grandsons Scott (Leslie) and great grandson Jacob of Fairfax Station, Va., Brad of Charlotte, N.C., and Blake of Goldsboro, N.C. Frances was a graduate of Madison College and worked as a home economist for the power company. Later they moved to Atlanta where Joe attended Emory University to study for the ministry. Frances worked at Emory Hospital and at Emory University Library. After Joe’s graduation they returned to Virginia and for the next thirty-seven years served United Methodist churches on the Charlottesville, Petersburg, Peninsula and Richmond Districts and as Administrator of The Hermitage in Northern Virginia prior to his death. Nieces and nephews are Kathy (Craig) Cahoon of Washington, DC, Carolyn (Jamie) Stachowski of Arlington, Va., John (Joanne) Walters of Glen Mills, Pa., Julia Lewis (Mark) of Ashville, NC, Michael (Bonnie) Anderson of Richmond, Va., Patricia Montrief and Peggy Crowder of Fredericksburg, Va. and many other very special great nieces and nephews. She was a member of Reveille United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Cedarfield for their care and concern. A memorial service will be held at The Hermitage at Cedarfield on Saturday March 7th at 10:30 am. Interment will be in Cartersville, Va. at the Cartersville Cemetery at 2 pm.
