Erma Pauline Sanders died on February 18, 2015 of pancreatic cancer. She was born on March 22, 1931 in Reading, Pennsylvania to William and Valeria Ege. She is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Robert, her daughter Lorie Armstrong and husband Gary, her son Scott Sanders and wife Tamar, granddaughters Erin Parker and husband David, Alison Armstrong and partner Eric Cureton, Devin Armstrong and partner Ken Pugh, and great-grandson Blake Armstrong Parker. She is predeceased by her brother William Ege and great-grandson Reid Robert Parker.
Erma was a public service representative for Bell Telephone in Pennsylvania during the Korean War years when her husband was overseas with the U.S. Navy. For twenty-two years, Erma was Co-Director and Registrar of New Hampshire YMCA Camp Coniston with her husband. While Co-Director of Camp Coniston, she also served as secretary of Stevens High School in Claremont, NH. Upon retirement, she worked full time at Kmart in Claremont until the move to Richmond, Virginia. Erma was a long time beloved volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital, where she held the longest volunteer record of 35,000 hours! She also knitted more than 300 baby caps a year. Since 1994, as a volunteer at St. Mary’s she has received several special commendations. Her outgoing personality and organizational skills made her much loved by her fellow volunteers and hospital staff.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, Virginia at 2PM.
