Elwood Garfield Lawson

Elwood Garfield Lawson of Richmond, VA passed away on June 16, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born in Powhatan, VA to the late Oliver Cecil and Etta Jessup Lawson. Survived by his wife, Barbara Johnston Lawson, son, Elwood G. Lawson, Jr. (Kristy), daughters Suzanne L. Tharin (Ted) and Mary Beth L. Hutchison (Todd), and Barbara’s sons Dan Ledford, Jr. (Peggy) and Douglas Graham. Also survived by his grandchildren Alicia Thomas, Taylor Lawson, Julie and Samantha Hutchison, Kaitie and Alex Tharin, Kraig Wood, Scott Ledford (Sierra), Wesley Graham (Heather), Alyssa and Zachary Graham. As well as four great grandchildren Sydney and Cheyenne Ledford, Audrey Graham and Madison Fisher. And his sister, Clara L. Emerson. He was preceded in death by his brothers Welbert, Stuart and Joseph Lawson and his sister Jean Manley.

After serving with the US Army Medical Corps in the Korean War, Mr. Lawson moved to Richmond, VA where after 32 years of service as an agent with State Farm Insurance Company he retired in 1994. He was Past Master of the Westhampton Masonic Lodge #302 AF&AM, member of Manchester Moose Lodge #699, Moose Legion #148, Bon Air American Legion Post #354, and Past Director and Treasurer of West End Jaycees. Mr. Lawson coached and managed for many years with Tuckahoe Little League. As an avid motorcyclist he rode in 48 states, Mexico and Canada, and served as AMA District 13 Road Riding Representative for the American Motorcyclist Association from 1978 to 1990, Past President of Virginia Motorcyclist Association and Past Charter Director of Richmond Harley Owners Group.

He’s gone to the Rivah via Harley Heaven.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 20, 2015 from 10am to 11am Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA. Funeral and Masonic services to follow at 11am.
