WILHOIT, Elizabeth Joy Walters, of Richmond, daughter of the late William Roy Walters and Rosamond Hill Walters, passed peacefully on January 3, 2012 at the age of 78. “Betty” was preceded in death by her husband of more than 30 years, Kenneth S. Wilhoit. She is survived by devoted family members including her children and their spouses: Mary Lowe Bedson (Keith), Lee Lowe (Kathy), Roy Lowe (Debbie), and Nancy LaVier (Bobby); six grandchildren, Jessica, David, Matthew and Ryan Lowe and Kenny and Adam LaVier; her brother, Bill Walters (Beverly), and sisters, Miriam Blevins and Roz Jones, all of Richmond; many adoring nieces, nephews and their children; and her grandpets, Duchess and Destiny. Betty was a loving person whose kind and generous spirit brought joy, aptly her middle name, to everyone she met. She attended Madison College, the precursor to James Madison University, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. A longtime member of Berryman Methodist Church and, more recently, Ridge Baptist Church, Betty was a dedicated worker, retiring from Travelers insurance company after 35 years of service. Her creativity and sense of humor were infectious. She was always fun and full of laughter, a bright light to all. Betty inspired those around her to be gracious and giving and to treasure family and friendship above all else. She touched the lives of many and will remain in our hearts – greatly loved, greatly missed. A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 8, at 11 a.m. at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road. A reception of fellowship will follow for friends and family at Betty’s home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
