Edward Charles Frese was born July 18, 1951 in Pittsburgh, Pa. He died September 20, 2017 in Richmond, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clanton and Sarah Frese, to whom he was their only son and a son, Mark Edward Frese.
He is survived by his wife Michele Marko Frese; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Fox, her husband James and their son Matthew and Trish Marko, a brother-in-law, Larry Marko, his wife Mariana, several cousins and a beloved aunt, Vera Spencer of Chariton, Iowa.
Ed graduated from Hopewell High School in Aliquippa, Pa. in 1969. He graduated from the University of Pittsburg with a B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1973. He was employed from 1973 to 1985 by Duquesne Light Company as a chemist at the Beaver Valley Power Station in Shippingport. Pa., where he met Michele. He then was employed from 1985 to 2016 by VEPCO and Dominion Generation nuclear power plants.
Ed was recognized as an industry expert in nuclear power chemistry and served on several industry water chemistry standards committees developing new technologies and standards for operation. Ed particularly enjoyed working with the Electric Power Research Institute on several water chemistry guidelines committees and served on the EPRI Robust Fuel Program as a co-chairman of the PWR Fuel Program as a co-chairman of the PWR Fuel Technical Advisory Committee.
Ed was a devoted fan of all Pittsburgh professional sports teams and enjoyed being a railroad fan, both riding train excursions and videoing trains. His father worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, the Penn. Central Railroad and Conrail.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, September, 29, 2017 at Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel, 1771 N. Parham Rd. Richmond, Va. 23229. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1400 Horsepen Rd. Richmond, Va. 23226. Interment will be private in Pa.
