EDWARDS, Douglas Thomas, 90, was born in Williamson, West Virginia on July 15, 1927, to the late Hazel Gertrude Wagner Edwards and Bertrom Zeigler Edwards. His brother, Harold Dean "Red" Edwards, predeceased him. After graduating Big Creek High School in War, West Virginia, Doug's education was interrupted when he was drafted during the Korean War. He proudly served his country.
After finishing college, he accepted a job in management with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company serving in various positions, ultimately retiring after 35 years. He had a love of family, country, golf, fishing, traveling, dancing and making his seasonal and delicious peanut brittle. He was a past member of the Lions and Kiwanis Clubs and an active member of Westhampton American Legion Post 84. He was a long-time member of Richmond Country Club where, over his golfing years, he scored three hole-in-ones. His faith was strong and guiding and he was a member of River Road Church-Baptist.
"Big D" was a loving husband of 67 years to his cherished wife, Betty. He is also survived by his adoring children, Vickie (Bob Wehner), Drew (Sally), Ann Marie (John Rockecharlie); two grandsons, Kemp and Zach Edwards; and a granddog, Henry Rockecharlie. He is also survived by many loving nephews, cousins; and our matriarch, Aunt Agnes.
We were blessed to have him as a father, mentor and confidant. Although he'll be dearly missed, we're happy he's now playing his best golf ever and catching the biggest fish.
