Dorothy Eddleton Waldrop, 96, daughter of the late Henry Denzil Eddleton and Annie Nuckols Eddleton, born on July 24, 1918, in Montpelier, Virginia, entered heaven to be with the Lord on April 18, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John A. Waldrop Sr.; her son, John A. Waldrop Jr.; her brothers, Preston and Buford Eddleton; and her sister, Ann E. Perkins. Dot is survived by her son, Richard D. (Denny) Waldrop and his wife, Dedee; daughter-in-law, Nancy A. Waldrop; sister, Talley E. Bowles; grandchildren, Kim Felts, Wendy Belcher, John Allen Waldrop III, Shannon Leonard, Kelly Waldrop, Blair Smith; and nine great-grandchildren. Born and raised on the family farm in Montpelier, Dot graduated as Salutatorian from Montpelier High School in 1936 and was accepted into nursing school at Johnston-Willis Hospital. After several years of private duty nursing, she moved to Richmond after marrying her high school sweetheart, John, in 1940. During the 50's and 60's, Dot helped her husband in their family grocery store while providing room and board for several single ladies, who had moved to Richmond for work. Following the grocery business, Dot was employed by Southern Bank and Trust in the adjustment department retiring in 1982. Dot loved gardening, renovating older houses and spending time with her family. She was a member of Hopeful Baptist Church and attended Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church where she enjoyed participating with the Love & Fellowship Group. The family will receive friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Hopeful Baptist Church in Montpelier on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 2 p.m., with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
