Carol Anne Britton Smith

SMITH, Carol Britton, 73, passed away December 26, 2016, in Henrico, Va. She was born July 5, 1943 in Hollywood, Calif., to parents William V. Britton Sr. and Helen Shipley Britton Meacham, who, along with her brother, William V. Britton Jr., have predeceased her. Carol grew up in Ashland, Va., and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1965. She pursued a career in education and retired from the Henrico County School System as the principal’s secretary. Carol married her high school sweetheart, James R. Smith Jr. of Caroline County, in 1966, immediately after his graduation from The Virginia Military Institute. Carol was a devoted wife and mother and is survived by her husband of over 50 years, James; her son, James R. Smith III; her daughter, Susan Smith Kowtna; and her grandchildren, James R. Smith IV, Emily Grace Kowtna, Christopher Matthew Kwotna, Jr., and Andrew William Kowtna. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, December 29, at the Parham Chapel-Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229, where her memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2016.
