Obituary of Bryan Lane Griffith
With his gentle kindness and unyielding wit, Bryan Lane Griffith, 32, lost his battle with epilepsy (SUDEP) on February 22, 2017. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Emily Ferguson; mother, Janet Blackwell; father, Lane Griffith; step-mom, Linda Griffith; sister, Kimberly Foutz (Michael); nephew, Oliver; mother-in-law, Susan Ferguson; and his uncle and friend, Mark Troia. Griff went through his life making friends and generating smiles. As a member of the Order of the Arrow and an Eagle Scout, Bryan always knew how to give back. His final gift as an organ donor will help 75 others live on. Bryan graduated from Virginia Tech where he became a Beta Brother and received his Master's degree at Emerson College in Boston where he became a 504 Beacon St. Brother. Bryan loved giving smooches to Emily, doling out the best bear hugs, cooking (especially white chicken chili) for friends and family, playing with his mini pig, Raffi, his colleagues at F + W Media, but he hated Trump. Bryan's insightful sense of humor will be universally missed. Bryan was the best friend anyone could ask for and he is survived by his friends, too numerous to mention, in Richmond, Boston, Jacksonville, and Fort Collins. Bryan was preceded in death by his Aunt Fay and grandparents, Ed and Velma Bland. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 2, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, March 3, at Four Mile Creek Baptist Church, 2950 New Market Road, Henrico, Va. 23231. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Virginia Tech "32 Named Scholarship Fund" and to The Boy Scouts of America.
