REID, Robert Earl "Bob," 82, of Sandston, Va., made his final ascent to the mountain summit in life's sojourn on Sunday, June 19, 2016, and now has a vista from heaven. He was comfortable and surrounded by his loving family. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years as an aviation structural mechanic. Bob received a B.A. from East Carolina University (formerly East Carolina Teachers College) and a master's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Guidance and Counseling. He retired from Henrico County Public Schools after 30 years of service and afterwards hiked the Appalachian Trail twice (2100+ miles from Springer Mountain, Ga. to Mt. Katahdin, Maine). He continued to help maintain the AT from Georgia to New York for the next 23 years. Bob was a member of the Old Dominion Appalachian Trail Club and loved his devoted Appalachian Trail family. Bob loved socializing and talked to everyone, especially little children. He was known for being helpful, loving and generous. Bob and his great stories will definitely be missed by all who knew him. He coached the Mets Little League baseball team, served as president of the Sandston Football League and also umpired Lassie League games. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy; daughters, Barbara Reid of Richmond, Va., and Lissie Girard (Art) of Richmond; son, Steve Reid (Amy); grandchildren, Tyler, Kelly and Parker Reid from Kernersville, N.C., Lee Girard (Laura) of Richmond, Va., Tom, Greg and Kevin Martin of N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Leland and George Girard; sister, Ann Wilson from Ayden, N.C.; sister-in-law, Jackie Dugan (Waymond) from Yuma, Ariz.; niece, Kacie Dugan, Colorado (Fabian); nephew, Jonathan Dugan of Tucson, Ariz.; great-nephew, Jax Colorado from Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
