She was born Anne McDermott in New York City on December 24, 1925. She married the love of her life, Harry Kucker on January 11, 1947, in St. Patrick’s Cathedral. She attended Queens College and worked as a Kindergarten teacher in New York City at “Most Precious Blood” school. Upon her move to Richmond, she continued as a teacher, then began a rewarding career in retail for nearly 30 years.
During this time, she served many roles in the Church in both NY and VA, including President of the Rosary Society, President of the Catholic Daughters of America, and member of the Irish American Society. She also served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Head of Religious Education, and a teacher for Children’s Liturgy. She shared in joyful fellowship in Saints and Sinners with many friends at St. Bridget Church.
Her greatest achievement was her large and loving family. A well-respected member of the church, Anne was also an avid swimmer, theater-goer, and cook, always in the kitchen whipping up her family’s favorite dishes.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Anna McDermott, her beloved husband of 60 years, Harry Kucker, her guardian Rose Sheehan, her cherished son Kevin Kucker, son-in-law, Joe Fortuna, niece Linda Walsh and cousin Tim McCarthy.
She is survived by her children Katherine Kenny, Nancy Fortuna, Jeanne Johnson, Brian Kucker (Lynn), and daughter-in-law Cindy Kucker; seven grandchildren, Lauren Foote (Bill), Chris Kenny, Allison Gumpel (Howie), Brooke Sapp (Daniel), Kerry Vaughan (Linwood), Michele Braswell (John), Michael Bradley (Heather); 14 great-grandchildren, grand-niece Lori Smith, grand-nephew Jack Smith, and cousins Donna McCarthy, Anne Bonventre, Kate Williams and their families.
