Alice May Scott of Richmond, Virginia passed away peacefully on March 16, 2019, surrounded by her family. Alice was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, great grandmother, and an adored, sweet friend to many.
Alice was the widow of Benjamin A. Scott, Jr. (USAF Ret.) (1922 – 2007) an Air Force officer. Together they traveled the world, living in Germany, Japan, and across the United States. Alice established her family at each new base, made life long friendships, and enjoyed the best of each new adventure that military life afforded her and her family.
In 1970, Ben and Alice retired from the Air Force and returned to Virginia where they both grew up. Establishing a home in Richmond, they built a rich and active life for the better part of 50 years. They were members of River Road Methodist Church and Second Baptist Church where Alice was an active member serving on several committees. In addition, she was a long-standing member of Tri Club dedicated to raising funds for those less fortunate. And she greatly enjoyed her membership in the Sleepy Hollow Garden Club where she served several terms as President.
Alice is survived by children, Benjamin L. and Gayle A. Scott, Helen "Scotti" Smith and Richard "Dick" Harvey, and her grandchildren, Justin L. Smith and Paola Stefan Smith, Adam B. Smith, and a new great grandson, Stefan Lee Smith. She was also pre-deceased by her son-in-law, Winifred Lee Smith, Jr. (1955 – 1986).
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at 4:00 pm in the Lakewood Healthcare Community, Simms Center, 1900 Lauderdale Drive, Richmond Va., 23238. Alice will be laid to rest beside her loving husband in the cemetery at Salem United Methodist Church, Gloucester, Va. on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.
