DOWDY, Alfred "Little Teenie," 70, of Varina, passed away suddenly on May 12, 2016. Preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Drusie Dowdy; sister, Mary Ann McClaning; and brothers, Arthur and William Dowdy. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Margaret Sneed Dowdy; two daughters, Rebecca Dowdy-Edwards (Lee) and Katherine Kempson (Chris); his grandson, Michael Childress; granddaughters, Ashleigh Koopmann (Josh), Emma and Sophia Edwards; great-granddaughters, Audrey and Eleanor Koopmann; two brothers, Nathan "Sweet Pea" Dowdy (Diane) and Linwood "Big Teenie" Dowdy (Pat); brother-in-law, Donnie McClaning; sisters, Shirley Hall, Thelma Cox (Al), Frances Harlow and Clarice "Chunky" Nash; his beloved dog, Bingo; numerous nieces, nephews and an amazing group of close friends. He was retired Command Sergeant from the Henrico County Police Department and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He received the Richard G. Engels award for his dedicated leadership and commitment to excellence and his unselfish desire to lead his officers to through his loyalty and commitment to Henrico County. He received the SOS Guardian Angel Award in 2002, for his contribution and love of animal welfare. He was the rock for many and stole the hearts of all who knew him. The family will accept friends on Sunday, May 15, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 16, at Fairmount Christian Church, 6502 Creighton Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23111, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park.
