Dorothy began her life's journey on May 15th 1948 in Rockford Ill, to the proud parents of Johnie David Rigsby & Ruth LaVern Brown Rigsby. She was the eldest of three children. Her father preceded her in death. Dorothy moved to California at the age of two. She attended elementary school in Alameda & high school in Richmond, Ca. She loved doing different activities and programs in school and was constantly on the honor roll.
After graduating from high school Dorothy worked at Social Security Administration. She then took a selling job with Ebony Magazine and earned a C N.A. certificate from Contra Costa College.
Dorothy soon moved to Washington D.C. and met and married Tony Howard Lucas, to this union two children were born, Anthony Lucas (Tony) and Arrika Lucas. Her husband Tony preceded her in death. Dorothy later married Elisha Austin and helped care for her step daughter Sandra Harris. Dorothy attended Mt. Zion M.B. C. as a child and worked on the usher board, sung in the choir and taught Sunday school. Dorothy's favorite past times was doing cross word puzzles and watching Golf & Tennis. She had a kind and loving spirit and if you ever met her you would consider her a friend. If there was anything she could do for anyone she would do it without a second thought. She was a praying mother and loved the Lord and before her death gave her life back to Christ.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her loving husband Elisha Austin, Mother Ruth La Vern Rigsby, son, Tony Lucas, daughter Arrika Lucas, her step daughter Sandra Harris Three granddaughters Kaleia Pree, Nevaeh Lucas, & NaMya Lucas. One greatgrand —daughter, Dallas McKenzie Roach, two sisters Carlene Hudson and Brenda Rigsby, one Nephew, and a host of nieces, family and friends.
