Cyrus was born on August 24, 1962 to Carol Ball and Bryant Griffin in Lenoir County, North Carolina. He attended high school in Richlands where he met the love of his life, Wendy Dearborn. They had the kind of love you read about in fairy tales. Together they brought 3 children into this world, Jesse, Jason "Bubba" and Jessica "Jessa".
They loved Halloween, cruises, mountain vacations, Nascar races and family get togethers. Cyrus lost the love of his life to cancer on April 20, 2014 and has been incomplete without her ever since. In March of 2020, Cyrus was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer that metastasized to his liver. He lived a few short weeks after his diagnosis and succumbed to his battle Thursday night.
Cyrus will best be remembered for his carefree spirit, his loud singing, adingadingdingn', playing the spoons, cherishing his grandchildren, his love for his children, his passion for Wendy, and if you really knew ol' Fatboy, you can complete this phrase, "Hamburger WHAT?!"
He is preceded in death by his father, Bryant Griffin, his wife, Wendy Griffin and his brother, David Griffin.
Cyrus is survived by his four loving children, Jesse Griffin (Maggie), Jason Griffin (Bonnie), Jessica Griffin (Chris) and Jon Findeisen (Emily); his mother, Carol Griffin; siblings, Butch Griffin, Samantha West-Griffin and Jackie Griffin; beloved grandchildren, Cole, Randi, Oliver, Samara, Elayna, Skylar, Alexis, Ethon and London; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Vel Hartzo; and more friends than can be listed.
A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2020, at 3:00 pm. Friends may tune in to Johnson Funeral Home's Facebook page (@JohnsonFuneralHomes) to "attend" Cyrus' service live and send your love from afar.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that memorial contributions in Cyrus' name be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
