Velma Marie Ross Reagan of Richardson, Texas was born in Sweetwater. She passed peacefully at the age of 99 years. Her life was lived faithfully and fully. She was a member of Waterview Church of Christ.
She was the youngest of six children. “Velma Dee” was nicknamed after her daddy. Many people thought it really was her middle name. She graduated Lubbock High School in 1939, then attended Texas Tech University. She taught school in Muleshoe before the big city of Dallas called her there, where she worked and shared an apartment with three other girls in 1940’s war-time. In the mid 1950’s she began a career with Continental Casualty Company, earning a place in their Twenty-Five Year Club in 1981, and retiring the next year as a statistician.
In 1956, she married Bill Reagan of Sherman and they made their home in Richardson. They were married 41 years until his death in 1998. They were original residents of The Heights neighborhood, where Velma continued to live in the family home on Scottsdale Drive until 2016, when she decided to move to independent retirement living.
Velma was active with her Ladies Bible Class at Waterview. She was a founding member and belonged to her Ladies Book Club for more than three decades. She and Bill traveled to many exciting locales, with Galveston and the beach as well as Big Bend National Park being favorites. Her favorite hobby was her family. Velma was in good health until most recently.
She is survived by nephews Ronald (Melody) Scott of Apex, North Carolina and Roger (Cindy) Scott of Richardson; Tommy Ross of Katy; Mike (Celeste) Ross of Friendswood; Jimmy (Glenda) Ross of Minco, Oklahoma; and niece Anita Steincamp (Max) of Fort Worth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Dee Ross and Lucy Kate Robertson Ross; and siblings Troy Ross, Lubbock; Mozelle Ross Allsup, Levelland; Inez Ross Gipson, Lubbock; Robert Ross, Santa Rosa, New Mexico; and Jewel Juanita Ross Scott, Lubbock.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 26 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Sparkman Funeral Home, 1029 South Greenville Avenue, Richardson. Internment will be at DFW National Cemetery with her husband.
